Where would openly gay homophobes fall into this, such as Milo Yiannopoulos?

  • Fred Phelps and all of the Westboro Baptist Church. Self explanatory.
    • Fred Phelps is (surprisingly) not gay: no one has ever produced any credible evidence of it, and more importantly, Fred's estranged son Nate, who's spoken frankly about Fred's sociopathic behavior, has been repeatedly asked if his father is gay, and replied, "There just isn't anything there in my own experiences growing up there that would suggest that."

Sometimes men who get 'aroused' while watching gay porn as part of an experiment are mistaken for armoured closet gays, because people think that arousal means that whatever the man is seeing is attractive, when fear and anger can also cause erections.

Does this trope include armoured closet bisexuals? I mean actual bisexuals, not just someone who is homosexual but uses fake heterosexuality as a cover.

Should this be included in the 'Always Male' index? All of the examples given are men, but I wonder if there is a female version.

Technically nothing in the descriptions excludes Lesbians. But Female homophobes are a rarity in fiction.

There's one in the mystery novel The Bootlegger's Daughter — if I remember rightly part of the mystery plot involved her making an aggressive pass at a man because of having slept with a woman and being ashamed of it, being vocally homophobic, she may even have committed murder in the course of denying her feelings — I'd like to add this example but my memory is vague enough that I don't trust it. I also once read a lesbian gothic novel in which the villain was a woman whose anti-gay attitudes were covering up her own inclinations — I can't remember the title of course.
