I often notice examples of people using this trope whenever an officer performs bureaucratic duties rather than fighting at the frontlines, regardless of their levels of competence. The problem here is that in real life high-ranking military people ARE bureaucrats. They deal with administration, planning and yes, politics. I've seen Gihren Zabi and Gopp (From Gundam) and several officers in Apocalypse Now being used as examples of Armchair Military. I thought this trope was about folks away from the frontline who are incompetent?

Um, maybe a type of general that reflects real life? the top briefly mentions and implies this is what modern militaries have but the two types don't include them...or they do but are horrendously biased
