Morty's famous quote from the Rick and Morty episode Rixty Minutes seems like a nihilistic defiance of this trope. "Nobody exists on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere. Everybody's gonna die... Come watch TV?"

My edit reason got cut off by me fat-fingering the Enter key, but I deleted the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex example because it's not really an Aesop. The Major believes in the trope, yes, but the show doesn't really depict the inhabitants of the cyberbrain as having a less valid viewpoint- reality really does kinda suck, after all.
