Does this really qualify as a "Dead Horse Trope"? I'd say that society has moved on, but we still get a lot of characters (and real people) who act like this. Just watch some modern black comedians and you'll hear a lot about how a black man has to be "hard" to live in this world and about all the ways that modern society is supposedly STILL out to get them.

Systemic racism still exists as of 2020. Society hasn't "moved on" from mistreating black people and modern society is indeed STILL "out to get them".
