Wouldn't this be pretty much justified in almost anything? I mean with the example the page gives, when discussing the Cold War, you're almost never going to mention all the smaller nations who had some stake, all you care about are the big players.

The examples and YKTTW comments confused me a bit, but it seems like (according to what Don Quigleone wrote on the YKTTW page) this trope is supposed to describe settings with (at most) a handful of sides, roughly at parity in terms of power. Thus it seems as if most of these examples are inappropriate, and that this trope is very closely related to the space-filling empire trope.

I had such high hopes when I originally saw the name of this trope; I thought it was going to be about the overuse/misuse of the term 'superpower.'
