Never mind, I didn’t read the full trope description. An example I had in mind was from literature, so I didn’t really think of it as a Dub Name Change.
Also, who at DiC Entertainment got the idea to change Ivo Robotnik's name to "Julian Robotnik" for Sonic SatAM? Was "Ivo" not good enough?!
Edited by MrStranger616 Hide / Show RepliesAnd yeah, his name IS "Julian Robotnik". Also, the "Ovi Kintobor" thing was never accepted by Sega of Japan, in favor of Ivo having the grandpa, "Gerald Robotnik".
Does this trope still apply if the name's the same but with an added surname where previously there were none? Like, it's just Alice in the comics but Alice Allen in the movie?
Edited by LiaMerez Hide / Show RepliesThat would be Named by the Adaptation, if the character has no given name, or no surname in the original source.
Edited by MrStranger616Where does Ever After High changing "Jack Spriggins" to "Jack Beanstalk" fall under? Web Animation?
Edited by MrStranger616And I guess the "Official" origin of Ivo Robotnik being Ovi Kintobor's alter ego from Sega of America has been retconned when they introduced his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik.
Edit: It has, and Sega of Japan never liked that one. They're the ultimate deciders of Sonic.
Edited by MrStranger616Does this count if a city or something like that is named differently in an adaptation?
Hide / Show RepliesWell yeah, like how Coolsville from Scooby Doo is named "Crystal Cove" in modern adaptations.
Putting it to a vote: does Lynnete in The King's Damosel/Kayley in Quest for Camelot count? I mean, the whole thing was changed so much, I'm not sure whether she qualifies as the same character.
Edited by 86.138.212.37 Hide / Show RepliesIn the Sonic Manga, Sonic the Hedgehog's real name is Nikki something, and Sonic is his hero name. You know, the one where he Clark Kents as Nikki?
Edited by MrStranger616Where do You Tube Poops fit here? Because there are Michael Rosen YTP's that make Harrybo's full name "Harrybo Sheddle", when the real Harrybo's real name was "Brian Harrison"

Would a change of name in a translation fall under this trope? Or is there a separate page for that sort of thing?
