What about the Zodiacs? Taurus = bull Leo = lion Cancer = crab I was gonna add a "mythology" folder
I wanted to ask before adding them: should the toys in Toy Story count? I mean, you could make the argument that Mr. Potato-Head is a Mr. Potato-Head, Barbie is a Barbie, and even that Buzz Lightyear is a Buzz Lightyear (one of hundreds).
At the very least, this trope applies to Dolly the doll in Toy Story 3.
Edited by BlueIceTea 'Crisis or no, nothing should interfere with tea!' Hide / Show RepliesSounds fine to me. In fact, Woody and the Roundup Gang would count as well. It's a slightly odd variant, but it works.
I've removed the Earth as an example, because as far as I know there's only one Earth.
'Crisis or no, nothing should interfere with tea!' Hide / Show RepliesI think the logic behind the entry was more 'There are zillions of planets out there, and for the name of our home planet, we chose to name a planet with a lot of dirt Soil.'
Arguably Earth would be more of a clear-cut example if we'd named it Planet or Water, but I can see how it fits the trope.
I'm probably getting carried away here, but what about naming less concrete entities along these lines. For example, what about putting together a band and calling it The Band? Or forming a union of states and calling it The United States?
'Crisis or no, nothing should interfere with tea!' Hide / Show RepliesWhen I first made the YTTKW I just had animals in mind, but, you know... it works. "A thing named after the thing it is" is the basic idea of the trope, so have at it.
"Mom was great in so many ways. Naming her daughter wasn't one of them." Kathy, on the topic of how she got her name.
Justified Trope? Invoked Trope? Definitely a Lampshade Hanging there though. :P
