Should we split this? It seems odd to have a single page for both the books and the show, given that they're now both ongoing and very different.
Hide / Show RepliesYes, please. I'm not familiar enough with the books to do it.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI love this site, where most sites would call Stefan And Damon Luis And Lestat this site call thems Betty and Veronica, hilarious.
Okay, under "Your Vampire Suck" the 50s dance episode was referenced. I had just watched that episode and Elena and Stefan was referring to the pompadour. Sure, perhaps that Edward Cullen may have had one (to me, he doesn't look like it), but the context was completely different than what the trope implies. Stefan didn't want Elena to see pictures of him in the past, during what people now would call an embarrassing moment of fashion history.
So my question is, why is it still under that trope?
Edited by 76.218.80.164 Hide / Show RepliesI removed it because I do not believe it was a Take That to Twilight.
The Woobie has not been taken out, it has simply been moved to the YMMV tab.
Query: In which episode did Damon kidnap and rape a group of college students? I've seen two references to this on the page, but I don't remember it happening... the closest thing I can recall was the massacre of Vicky's friends. (Of course, if it's a season two episode it might not have aired yet where I am.)
Hide / Show RepliesI believe you're referring to Episode 15 of Season 1: A Few Good Men. You don't see him engage in sexual activity with the girls in the episode, but they do have bite marks and he dances with them. The girls are seen briefly in the video shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7I5bGrS-dSk
Depends on your definition. Certainly with Caroline it would count as rape in the sense that she could not possibly give true consent being under the influence of mind control. Sure she found him attractive and was willing to sleep with him initially but it kind of falls apart after that when he starts feeding on her and screwing with her mind. But lets also not forget he's first and foremost an evil, murdering vampire so abusing and killing the local maidens kind of goes with the territory. It's not so much he does these things but the seeming willingness of the rest of the characters to overlook them in short order that can sit a bit uneasily. There's a tension there with Damon that provides a lot of energy to the narrative but is sometimes hard to reconcile for the Powers That Be on the show.
Ah, okay. I didn't read that scene as involving sex/rape (recalling how he danced with Vicki, but didn't sleep with her) so it didn't come to mind; I thought he just fed on them. Thanks for the clarity. :)
Forgive me, I haven't seen the beginning of season 1 in a while, but was there evidence that Damon was still sleeping with Caroline AFTER he started compulsing her? I remember him kissing/biting her but I don't remember any sex.
I may have totally misread it but I kind of thought it was more than implied by the scene that had Caroline waking up in bed in S 01 E 03 with a bite wound on her neck and wearing a different outfit to the one we last saw her in at the end if the last episode and Damon is lying to her side. There's also the scene in S 01 E 04 where she's trying on dresses and Damon compels her to invite him to the party as her escort - and then also admits he's going to kill her when she asks him. The scene finishes with them on the bed kissing and Caroline in her underwear.
What's intresting is that in that scene Caroline is completely aware that Damon is a vampire and we even get a little exposition on the rules of becoming vampire. Presumably Damon had compelled Caroline not to be scared, much as Kathrine did to Stefan. Also makes it easier to understand how Caroline adapted to becoming a vampire once her memories came back.
Edited by CutTheRageAnd if/when Elena gets vamped, she's going to remember Damon's little declaration of love. *Squee!*

I've removed the White-Haired Pretty Boy examples for the time being. TRS reworked the trope into White Hair, Black Heart, and is specifically about white-haired characters who are at the very least sinister, if not the outright villains of their work. If neither of these fit, then they'll need to stay removed; if one or both fit, then they can be added back provided their entry fits the new trope definition.
EDIT: Looking at the character list, neither appears to qualify.
