Is it just me, or does Calamity fully qualify as "The (not-a-)Man Behind the Man"? It's the cause of the apocalypse, it's driven everybody psychotic, (If you use powers you get selfish, and not everybody is selfish when they get powers.) and looms constant in the sky over the destruction it's caused. It's the title of the third book, for crying out loud!

Possibly, but I think we need at least one more book's info to know whether it will serve as an antagonist in truth or just as background.

Do we know for sure that Calamity is the cause of the apocalypse?

We don't. It's even noted that Epics only started showing up a year after Calamity. It's assumed to be the root-cause in-universe, but it's by no means confirmed. We also don't know that it's intelligent yet.

How did Nightwielder manage to constantly block the sun with his powers? the UV rays not only forced him to become tangible, they also made his black mist dissapear. If he's using his dark mist to block the sun, it should be disintegrated every day.

I think it's either supposed to just be exceedingly lame or to sound like "pink penis."
