Removed this trope:

Checking the page on Complete Monster (which is an overused and extreme trope, and should be used carefully). Baby Kochamma in particular does not resemble this point:

The character's terribleness must be played seriously at all times, evoking fear, revulsion and/or hatred from the other characters in the story. If they're Played For Laughs, the character is usually just Evilly Affable, at worst, but can still be one if done right. If the character is not taken seriously at all, they fail to qualify.

It's not indicated that Baby Kochamma is regarded with fear, revulsion, or hatred by her family. She appears to be a steady member of the family - annoying, yes, but not harmful in any way. If there can be quotes brought up to counter this, then well and good, but she acts and is treated like a normal maiden great-aunt - which makes her cruelty towards Velutha all the more shocking. That's all.

I'd be more inclined to say that she's more of a Karma Houdini. She escaped prosecution and jail time by forcing a child to lie to the police. And while there are certainly opportunities for her to be caught in her lie, none of them really stick.
