Cut and pasted from Main Page

  • God Save Us from the Queen!: Queen Andais is pretty much pure evil.
    • Or is she? The plot of the whole series is kicked off by her offer to abdicate in favor of the younger generation of her family. She is infertile, and among the fey, fertility springs from the king or queen. This is in spite of the fact that a.) being queen means more to her than anything, and b.) she's immortal and will have to sit around twiddling her thumbs for eternity while someone else rules.
      • On the other hand, these are The Fair Folk, so it could very easily be argued that her returning human-level birth-rates by abdication is itself evil— at least, from the perspective of the human race the newly empowered faeries are going to go back to torturing for fun.

On the third hand (hey, it's a perfectly viable option in this world), doing otherwise is basically self-xenocide.

I think it's more Blue-and-Orange Morality than evil. She's not human, she doesn't think like one, and she's got no vested interest in our survival. By the standards of her people, she's mostly moral, and downright noble when the chips are down.

Well, she's a (mostly) responsible ruler, but her private amusements are not nice at all - and sometimes, IIRC, she tortures for petty or entirely warped reasons.
