Is Big Fido really an "obvious analogue for Hitler"? Angua's brother Wolfgang and his people in The Fifth Elephant seem to be much more closely modeled on Nazis. Big Fido's movement seems much more like a (somewhat unkind) parody of the Nation of Islam or similar Black Nationalist movements. It gives people (or in this case dogs) who are downtrodden and have escaped enslavement a sense of pride and purpose based on a misconception that's based in ignorance of what wolves (their ancestors) are really like. Big Fido's ultimate death is difficult to bear for other dogs, and I don't think Pratchett portrays them as unsympathetically as he would Nazis By Any Other Name.
