By the time you get to "Claws That Catch" this seems to be the case, as there are descriptions of wyverns firing .50 cal bullets at the Dreen.

hmm. i dont remember that. i guess i will have to check up on that. if i recall correctly, berg and co are pinned down and berg passes off one of his pistols to another guy (who says "i need to get me one of these"). in short, i dont think they are standard issue yet.
does anyone else find it really dumb that the wyverns are all equiped with dinky little gatling guns? yeah they carry a lot of ammo, and shoot really fast. how useful is that when half the things they fight are armored enough to be almost immune? why not carry a .50 cal machine gun, since Bergs .50 cal pistols seem pretty effective?
