Several entries on this page imply that Reacher Gilt died accidentally when he stepped beyond the door after Vetinari offered him a job at the Royal Mint based on the speculation that "Although given the kind of man Gilt was, the implication is more that he was in such a rush to accept Vetinari's offer of being allowed to walk out the door,"

This is inconsistent with the three patterns in the whole book: 1. Reacher Gilt is proud and calculating. He must always be in charge and would never allow himself to be controlled by anyone. 2. Both Vetinari and Gilt believe in absolute choice including the choice to take the detrimental consequences. It is absolutely in Gilt's character to choose death over working for Vetinari 3. The whole "Angels" theme of the book is that it only appears when someone's life path is fucked up beyond saving and they are contemplating death as an alternative. It is therefore completely logical that Gilt would choose suicide rather than attempt redemption by "angel".

Re cut: Is there a reason why the work pages are not under the Literature/ namespace? We don't make ad hoc namespaces.

The tower between Ank-Morpork and Sto Lat HAS been mentioned before—it was Rincewind's tower in Sourcery, from which he confronted the entire senior faculty of Unseen University and Coin the Sorcerer, AFTER UU has just destroyed every other wizard's tower in the world. Rincewind won the battle, primarily by hitting things with bricks, but got blown into the Dungeon Dimensions in the process. The next time we see Rincewind, it is in Eric, which is the last book before Ridcully takes of UU.

Also, the Patrician does inform Moist that Mr. Pump has a day off, but Moist just doesn't listen. Most readers don't catch it either, but...4 mph times 24 hours equals 96 miles per day. 96 miles per day equals 768 miles per week, but Lord Vetinari gives the figure of miles traveled per week as 672, meaning that the golem stops traveling one day per week. Unless you sit down and do the math, you will completely miss this warning. Moist, who is a math-based con man, among other things, SHOULD have caught the warning, but did not.

Rincewind's "tower" was him dazedly piling a couple rocks on top of each other out of wizard instinct. He confronts Coin in UU, and he doesn't hit anything with the brick except the staff — when he and Coin go to the Dungeon Dimensions, he ends up filling his sock with sand instead because he's lost the brick.

Err, why is there a link to the Playing With Going Postal trope on the page for the Discworld book? Was someone a little confused? And can I take it down?

The links are created automatically. There's nothing we can do about them.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

I think a better page quote could be used; What do you guys thin of this: (And the idea of changing the page quote)

"If somewhere, any possible world can exist, then somewhere there is any letter that could possibly be written. Somewhere, all those cheques really are in the post."

The quote is in Chapter 6. It is on page 192 on my edition.

I think a better page quote would be Moist's line about running before you can crawl. That's really more emblematic of the book as a whole than that line.

Should I go ahead and change it to the line about running before you can crawl? Also, what chapter is it in?

I'm not sure what chapter, either 6 or 7. But the quote is:

"Run before you walk! Fly before you crawl! Keep moving forward! You think we should try to get a decent mail service in the city. I think we should try to send letters anywhere in the world! Because if we fail, I'd rather fail really hugely. All or nothing, Mr. Groat!"

  • Series Continuity Error: When Vetinari is informing Moist that Mr Pump will hunt him down anywhere in the world if he tries to escape he points out that although Mr Pump only moves four miles an hour, he never does anything else, so he's moving non-stop and four miles an hour is 672 miles a week...except that it isn't. Not in Discworld it isn't. Thanks to the curious trait of a Discworld week being eight days instead of seven, at four miles an hour is 768 miles a week.

This is wrong and I will remove it. It is said a few times in this book and earlier ones Owned Golems, like Mr. Pump, do have a contractual day off. So on the evening of the eighth day to evening of the next, he wouldn't move to advance on Moist.

Vetinari is just not telling Moist about the day off because he's Vetinari.

That last paragraph could be better. Not going to attempt as I'd be worse than useless.

So about that missile pony you promised me.
