So I worked out some of the math at this mechanic, and there is something that I think is worth mentioning. So both increasing enemy health and increasing enemy damage increase difficulty, but there is an important statistical difference between the effect. Increasing health not only increases difficulty, but also decreases variance, so a player is less likely to win a fight by random chance. Increasing damage does not have this same effect, and instead makes it more likely for a player to randomly loose. This is especially important in RP Gs as a lot attacks are random, so chance must be taken into account. Anyway, I think many RPG designers are probably aware of this effect, so it should be mentioned.
