"Expy: A case can be made that all the characters are expys of ones from Lucas' previous Star Wars movies, but in a fantasy setting. Willow=Luke, Madmartigan=Han, Sorsha=Leia, General Kael=Darth Vader, Bavorda=Emperor Palpatine and so on." Really? Beyond the fact that they fit the very general archetypes of "humble villager who saves the world", "cocky badass who learns responsability", "princess who hates him and then falls in love with him", The Dragon, and Evil Sorcerer Big Bad, they have almost nothing in common. (Unless I messed the part where Willow despised his life and wanted to leave to become a great hero, Kael turned out to be his father, and Sorsha was a prisoner of Bavorda who's request for help initiated the main plot).
Re: Ultimate Evil
Am I missing something? I haven’t seen anything in the movie that implies Bavmorda taking orders from anyone else.
Do you suppose Bavmorda isn't actually ALIVE for most of the film? She's clearly swathed in bandages under her robes, and her face deteriorates quite noticeably during the course of the film. Has she perhaps just become a lich?
I've unspoilered the name of Prophecy Twist because our Spoiler Policy says "Spoiler tagging the trope name is pointless. Don't do it, period."

Was Willow supposed to be a Spiritual Licensee of The Hobbit?
Please discuss.
