Hey, so, unless someone can provide me with a good reason not to, I'm gonna clean up this page a lot. Someone clearly didn't like this movie and is working very hard to read Thelma as a villain. It's fine if you have an alternate take, but the text of the film is that Thelma is an abused girl who has to accept herself and take control of her powers. Buying into her abusive father's mindset is not a fair read of the film and I think should probably go in the YMMV section.

I mostly agree, but in the film itself Thelma herself worries at first that she made Anja love her unwittingly for instance. My take is while Thelma doesn't seem actively malicious (thus not a Villain Protagonist) she's perhaps Obliviously Evil at times. We could add some to an Alternate Character Interpretation entry on YMMV too. It would be good to discuss more specific changes here.

I think the film shows Thelma worrying, but I don't think the ending is as ambiguous as the page makes it sound. Thelma only does damage when she has no control over her powers and the very first thing she does when she has control over them (after bringing Anja back) is heal her mother, and the thematic implications of her emerging from the pool after swimming down in the lake is that she's emerged, confident in herself and in her relationship.

I'm not saying there's not room to address it, there is some ambiguity there and its interesting, but the version of the page I edited basically assumed Thelma was evil and assumed that the interpretation where she's good is the alternate interpretation. I still think it's too harsh on her, but I think it's a little less one sided now.

I agree, it isn't so clear cut as the current take assumes. We could put that more negative perspective in Alternate Character Interpretation. I'd argue however we should leave in the ambiguity on whether Anja wants Thelma since it was supported by her behavior from what I recall. This doesn't mean Thelma (assuming it happened this way) made Anja want her with her powers intentionally though. I may have to rewatch it though.
