Where will tropes for the next movie go? This page, or a new one?
Hide / Show RepliesA separate folder on this page should work best, at least until it gets too big. Same as The Hobbit.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. How old is Clove? The movie explicitly states she is 15, but is there anywhere in the book that confirms/heavily implies she's 18? I'm wondering if she was given an Age Lift so she could be played by 14 year old Isabelle Fuhrmann.
I've changed this line "In addition to those from the original" to something more generic to accept duplicated stuff on the basis that a film works on its own and the page is not a soft split and I haven't seen anything on the matter here.
Does Gorn really belong here? They didn't show much blood flying, and they cut out a great deal of the violence of the books, including a number of instances of deadly physical contact, such as Marvel stabbing Rue with a spear, Thresh finally beating Clove to death (it's shown, but not right at the end), and the fact that the tribute from 3 isn't trying to run away when Cato snaps his neck (it's probably the most graphic death they show).
Hide / Show RepliesNew ship from watching the movie: Cinna X Katniss. I mean, c'mon- he kisses her, flatters her every chance he gets, leans over her, gets as close as he can to her- I could almost see a glint in the guy's eye whenever he got near her.
And no, I'm not saying all this just 'cuz he's black. Or that's at least what my friends accused me of.
Me: BLA BLA BLA CINNA X KATNISS BLA BLA BLAAAAA. Friend: Stfu, you racist! You're just noticing all that 'cuz he's black! Me: What?! No! I'm just noticing that 'cuz it happens a lot! Friend: 'CUZ HE'S BLACK. Me: I didn't even mention his race!
I sympathize with short, angry men who have big egos. Hide / Show RepliesI think that's just the angle they took with him. He was always a very caring character in the book, almost like a surrogate father.
Is there a word for knowing a trope is coming (or rather, something is going to happen)?
During the scene where Katniss has to show off her archery skills, I saw the Capitol folks that were supposed to be judging her and knew an arrow would eventually be flying in their general direction. It didn't make it any less awesome, but I'm wondering if it's a good thing or a bad thing when you can see tropes coming like that. And again, if there's a word for it.
Not exactly sure how to categorize this. Could be YMMV, could be Fridge Brilliance, could be Fridge Horror (which is how I reacted). The Ship Tease between Film!Cato and Film!Glimmer really disturbed me. It could have been strategy, trying to leach some of the "Star Crossed Lovers" goodwill from Katniss and Peeta but being from different Districts it isn't like they could have known each other before the Games and without any other context to suggest that it was strategy and with Film!Cato's last speech I was left feeling like they may have actually been the "Star Crossed Lovers" that Katniss and Peeta were pretending to be (obviously the "pretending" was all on Katniss' side).
This might just be reading too much into the movie by someone who has read the books too many times. But in the clip shown from a previous game, Cesar mentions the black boy shown in the clip was a "victor." The clip is rather grainy, implying this game was recorded some years ago. Is it possible that it's representing Chaff and the game he won?
I'd put it down on the page as some form of Continuity Nod or Chekhov'sGunman, but I didn't want to put something up that is more WMG than trope.
Does the film series really warrant a separate character sheet? The vast majority of the tropes are the same in the movie as in the book, meaning much of it is just repeated (in some cases even copy-pasted).
