The claim that Malkina's motivation is "for the evulz" is just wrong: she's trying to steal for money. I also didn't think Laura's fate had anything to do with her interactions with Malkina: the cartel killed her and Malkina doesn't give a shit about anybody who dies (except maybe her cheetahs).
