Throughout the film there were references to a human cloning experiment, the first one actually, that went and Gone Horribly Wrong, but there were no details beyond the subject being put out of its misery and how it lead to the creation of the 6th Day Laws.

Does anyone have any theories as to what could have happen that was so horrible that an entire field of research was outright banned?

I am guessing that ethics concerns did them in. Ethics is a big aspect in medical science in RL, after all.

The way they were talking about it, though, it sounded like the subject just, I don't know, just came out wrong or something, so wrong that allowing it to live would be nothing short of an act of cruelty.
