The film actually addresses this: Derek mentions that if the Supreme Leader is noticed to be gone, a revolution could spark, since Derek wasn't the only one with the subversive history book. With the Leader dead along with what was apparently the entire breeding stock of gargons, the Supreme Race will be dealing with civil war and food shortages for years.
Then there's also the wreckage of the alien fleet, more than likely, enough tech survived to give Earth a fighting chance against the Race if and when they return.
