When Dex appears with three of the kidnapped scientists he says the others were recaptured after their escape attempt. Those scientists don't appear in person and their fate after the rocket crash is unknown.
What Dex actually says in the movie is "Some of the scientists were caught. They didn´t make it."
"They didn't make it" means they were killed.
If he had instead said "That's why they aren't with us", that would have left their fate unknown.
