How is the sequel/next movie coming along? With the success of the Sonic Movie there has to be something going on with the Pokemon movie franchise.

You seem to forget that a pandemic spread across the world from March 2020 to right now. Anything that hasn't already been filmed has mostly been put on hold, and even projects that were ready before the pandemic were delayed to prevent a complete stagnation of creative works. I'm sure there will probably be a sequel of some kind, but don't expect it soon.

I'd say the movie goes somewhere between near identical and pragmatic. As far as I recall there is very little in it that you could say doesn't fit in the pokemon universes of the main series games (albeit it may be closer to the anime universes in some ways).

I'd say this fits under "In Name Only". Compared to the game of the same name, only Tim's name is kept. Tim never does any detective work, Pikachu's ability to translate between Pokemon and human is never used, and the plot revolved around finding Tim's dad, something that was basically a footnote in the game. I guess R was common to both as well, but that's hardly enough to link the two.

Can we change the title page to avoid the colon? It's not part of the official material or the Wikipedia page.

Agreed. Why did the name of the page change back to using the colon? There is no colon in the official title at all.

  • Large resolution version of the final release poster — The credits block uses "POKÉMON DETECTIVE PIKACHU" (in all caps since it's a credits block) for the official title.
  • Official website — The about page reads, "The first-ever live-action Pokémon adventure, “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” stars Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu, the iconic face of the global Pokémon phenomenon—one of the world’s most popular, multi-generation entertainment properties and the most successful media franchise of all time." (Pokémon is in all caps as a stylization.)
  • Fandango page — Fandango uses whatever title is given to them by the producers and/or distributors, and it does not use a colon for the film's title.
  • Rotten Tomatoes page — Since Fandango owns RT, it's the same ordeal.
  • IMDb pageIMDb tries to make sure their info is as accurate as possible and they use the colon-free spelling.
  • Official verified Instagram account — The name field for @detectivepikachumovie reads (as bolded) POKÉMON Detective Pikachu.
  • Wikipedia article ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pokemon_Detective_Pikachu ) — There was actually a whole debate on its talk page over there (which I cannot properly link here because TV Tropes is having issues parsing it) whether to title their article on the film with or without a colon. Consensus over there decided no colon based on official media.
