Dropping the second section to discussion: we don't need to recap the whole movie to characterize it. Doing so is generally spoils the movie unnecessarily.

You see, the man Young murdered was the one who ratted out his escape attempt three years ago and he's only just been allowed out of "the hole". Citing the fact that Young was only incarcerated for a petty crime in the first place and isn't the most stable of people after his time in the hole, Stamphill puts Alcatraz itself on trial for inhuman treatment of its inmates...and begins upsetting the wrong people.

I don't really think it counts as a synopsis; just part of the premise.

Given all of that happens in about the first 10 minutes of the film.
