Seems like it fits to me; he's worried about "going down in history" which is missing the point because there will be no history if the universe is destroyed.
He's not worried about the universe, he's worried about his reputation (which is irrelevant if the universe is destroyed).

Anyone notice the outfit Super Hot Giant Alien is wearing is very similar to Animated Starfire's?
Now am I missing something or is "I refuse to let us go down in history as the dudes who destroyed the universe!" NOT really an example for Comically Missing the Point?
