So... I actually really enjoyed this film. I was harsh on it in the months before its release, but now that I've actually seen it, I have to say... I'm impressed. They did a pretty good job. It's not the same as the anime or manga, it is indeed very different, but hey. What else do you expect? And even though it is different, it also manages to maintain some of the same plot points from the show and books. Anyone else agree that it wasn't as bad as expected?
Hide / Show RepliesWell, it would be fun if Light and L had shown up, but if all my complaints can be summer up with "Its American, Only 100 minutes Long and not the Anime", then I guess they succeeded with what they were trying to do. Still, Light is my favorite asshat douchbag character and he was nowhere to be seen.
These were never meant to be the exact same characters as in the anime. It's basically the 2015 TV Show trying to change things up, except this movie actually has the guts to actually change their personalities, where the 2015 show barely does anything with that.
It could just be I'm more lenient when it comes to movies. Ah well, I enjoyed it for what it was.
So did I. For what it was. But I don't get the hatred for it on the internet - my blu-ray set isn't going anywhere.
Yeah, a lot of people seem to forget that, regardless of if they like or dislike the film, it doesn't change the anime at all. So it's like... Why get so upset over it?
Welcome to the internet, where the slightest deviation from the source material is considered the work of the devil. "Harry Potter doesn't have green eyes? This is the worst movie I've ever seen"
It's getting so that if somebody did a live action Fullmetal Alchemist (never mind the fact that it was already done in Japan) and cast a short blond teen actor as Edward Elric, people would be complaining of whitecasting.
I’m just that kind of guy, you know?
I wonder about the entry on Adaptation Decay. How is removing a 100% guaranteed death eliminates suspense?
