Should the film's page list the "asshole victim" trope? (I just checked it and it doesn't, unless I really failed a spot check)

I can think of at least three characters in the movie, that would qualify (the stalker guy - unless the victim has to die for it to count? the "Agent Smith", and the Big Bad of the movie)

No, it doesn't fit. Asshole Victim is for when "someone is an asshole. They die for unrelated reasons because someone needs to die and the audience won't feel bad about it."

These examples are characters paying specifically for their misdeeds. The Big Bad is pretty much never going to fall under Asshole Victim.

^ Right. I see Asshole Victim often misused for characters made out to be bad.

Re: What happened to the mouse?

What happened to Angel (Dust) after Colossus carried her and Warhead away from the destruction?

She was presumably arrested. They don't show precisely what happened, but we know she was unconscious and carried away at the end of the movie. This trope really shouldn't apply... it's not like there is some question about it, it's just not spelled out.

Should Colossus count as an example of Adaptation Expansion? I kinda felt like he got a much bigger role in this movie than in the other X-Men movies he's appeared in.

Sure...go ahead...but does Deadpool qualify as an adaptation when its in the same universe?

Trope you're thinking of is Ascended Extra. Collosus has a much larger role in the original comics, but was a minor character in the film continuity.

I tried to write a clever introduction "in-character" for this article, but apparently these days, six whole comments on a discussion page qualifies as "AD NAUSEUM" (yes, all in capital letters).

Entries, no. Don't try to SD the entries. That gets confusing and is rarely well done. But, an introduction for a movie with a nine-figure opening weekend based on a character whose entire shtick is breaking the fourth wall?

C'mon. The worst thing the can happen is somebody *gasp* laughs a little bit. Have we really fallen that far?

No, the worst thing that can happen is that you sacrifice clarity for poorly written jokes that no one asked for and we all have to groan through it.

And yes, "Ad Nauseum" most certainly qualifies if you look at the countless times Deadpool's come up on Ask The Tropers and the Self Demonstrating Characters thread.

Yes, Deadpool breaks the fourth wall a lot. We love him for that. We also like our articles readable. We're not going to break the site's rules for a joke that, let's face it, is rarely funny.

Oh, and as a note... I actually thought that your introduction was actually surprisingly decently written. But it's still really not what we want on a main page.

Hey, I take offense at the "poorly-written joke" comment. I admit it was kind of rough; I'm more funny than I am witty (in the Douglas Adams sense, respectfully). I make damn good money writing jokes and I think I did Mr. Pool justice here.

I made sure that the links stayed intact. Well, I deliberately dropped the "link to the playlist of trailers" link, but the rest still made their original point.

I'll admit I'm kind of old here and I'm used things being funny and self-referencing; which is why I think I didn't sacrifice any readability here. Virtually nobody who gets to this page will get here without understanding the joke.

Heh, see my edit. Like I said, I actually thought your writeup was decent. But here's the thing. You could have stunning, shining, perfect writeup that brings laughter to the unborn children of expecting mothers reading the intro. It's still opening the door for any yahoo to make their own changes which...could go very poorly. And historically speaking, will go very poorly.

I mean (I hate that I have to keep going back to this) the VideoGame.Deadpool was an unreadable miasma of awfulness and I have been reading Deadpool since he first got his own series. Understanding the joke doesn't necessarily make it any more readable. And like you said, this is a movie with a nine-figure opening weekend. It's going to get a lot of traffic. Meaning it'll get A: A lot of editors and B: A lot of people seeing those edits. Sturgeon's Law says that those SD edits are not... going to remain good.

Well, yea, the Video Game examples ended up an exercise in acute fucktardery mostly because people tried to shoehorn the the first-person thing into the examples where they didn't belong.

I already admitted I'm an old fogey around here, but I like to think we should stay hip to the kids' lingo. And adapt once we realize that "hip," "lingo," and "kids" are terms we use *way* more subjectively than we should.

Given the success of the movie and the spot Deadpool carved into our collective hearts year ago, we should consider a SD introduction. We may want to include a sideband comment in the introduction that it's written in the style of Deadpool.

We can't simply ignore the fact that the Deadpool movie hit it out of the park. We're no "objective" *cough*"Other Wiki*cough*. We're TV Tropes, dammit.

"We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And, should we win the day, the Eleventh of February will no longer be known as an Marvel holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We love superheroes fucking unicorns." We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on after British Villains fuck us up in unethical experiments! We're going to survive and hope the sequel stinger wasn't another joke." Today we celebrate our Independence Day!"

(Hey, it was an awesome speech. I'm re-using it just like they did for the "sequel")

Which is almost guaranteed to happen here unless the SD is kept in check. The film is funny on its own merits without having to restyle the article to fit.

Sigh. I am really starting to miss the days when TV Tropes was 'a buttload more informal'.

After Troper Tales and Fetish Fuel, Self-Demonstrating is probably the thing we're trying to contain the most of on this site. It just spreads so much and has SO much potential to be awful. Unless it's off in its own namespace, it's not worth the effort.

Shouldn't this be a Self-Demonstrating article?

It's not in the Self-Demonstrating namespace, so no, it really shouldn't.

I'm currently working on cleaning up Deadpool as well, if you would like to help there.

I'm having a disagreement with ashlay about the character page for Film/Deadpool2016, so I hope someone can help us resolve this. To maintain consistency with the rest of the X-Men film series, I wanted to create a redirect for Characters/Deadpool2016 which would lead to X-Men Film Series. (ALL the other X-Men movies follow this format, so Film/Deadpool2016 should be no different, in my opinion.) Moreover, all of the character subpages start with X Men Film Series in their URLs, so I listed the entries on X-Men Film Series: Deadpool.

However, ashlay undid all of my changes, so I was wondering if other people agree with me that we continue to follow the same format as the other X-Men films, or if they prefer ashlay's way.

So yeah... even though it's "tied to" the X-Men movies, it's still not actually an X-Men movie. Moreover, I'd be against a merge because it's so separate that it'd wind up getting split off anyway due to size.

All that moving it to an "X-Men" page would do is overstate its connection to the X-Men franchise and make navigating pages harder.

Should the Film page really be Self-Demonstrating? Particularly as it's a separate article entirely from the main Deadpool article.

No. It cannot be. We need to stop this before it gets out of hand like it dead on the VideoGame.Deadpool page.

... especially since whoever changed the entries didn't bother changing the conjugations. Jesus. At least it made cleanup easier. I probably missed something, though.
