I just revised the bit about Roseanne being involved in politics because the way it was phrased made it seem like she had always been a right-wing Trumpian, including when she had thrown her hat into the ring earlier. But when she ran for President in 2012, she first tried to run as a Green, and when the Green Party didn't nominate her, she turned to the socialist Peace and Freedom Party of California. (Disclosure: I am a member of that party and was the timekeeper at our 2012 Convention; her candidacy is definitely a case of Old Shame in the party.) She had previously espoused vaguely progressive sentiments, and during her wooing of our party she spoke fondly of her Communist grandmother. Sadly, even during the course of the 2012 election season, she was clearly going off the rails, tweeting about "chemtrails" and other wacky conspiracy theory stuff and general ranting - mostly of the sort found on the left, though with some overlap with right-wing positions, such as transphobia fronting as feminism ("TERF").

The wording of that sentence needs more work, but I thought it necessary to provide more context.

Also, fun fact: The 2012 Peace and Freedom Party Convention that nominated Roseanne for President was happening in Culver City at the same time as the Comedy Central Roast was taping. During a break in the taping, she (and a small entourage) came from the taping to our Convention where she gave what I recall as a very good speech, shook some hands, and then went back to the Roast taping.
