Why do we always assume that someone who never married is secretly gay? Alcott always complained about how women were expected to marry and be mothers and never amount to anything else in life. Considering that the laws of the day robbed married women of any agency and property (even the clothes she wore on her back belonged to her husband), it's no wonder Alcott chose not to marry. She would have never gotten the wealth and fame she had if she'd been married. Besides sexual relationships are not the end all/be all of humanity. I never married and I'm not gay.
