We'll need Word of God for that line asserting that her race has affected her career.

As for her appearance, examples for this trope are questionable in that it amounts to declaring who has a "true" African American appearance and who doesn't. I'm not at all sure that's our business. Natter-bait at best.

  • But Not Too Black: Straight example. She's faired skinned at best. Not that it's really helped her career all that much...

I thought it was a well known fact that black women aren't exactly in high demand in Hollywood, outside of black cinema and Tyler Perry movies. I understand that the but not too black doesn't just mean light skinned black person, but a black person that has benefited from having light skin.
