And now the protagonist of The Shape of Water is pretty much all that girl is, black haired, silent, smart and shy. she's just grown up here.
On his thumbprint, I think there are two more possible additions:
-ever since Cronos there is a bobbed hair girl -I dub her "the Mafalda"- in almost every movie, not always as a protagonist
-also since that movie, there is almost always an old man and a child, not necessarily the Mafalda, like the kid and gramps who found Gypsy Danger in Pacific Rim, or the little Hellboy and Professor Br—holm in Hellboy II.
