On the Dresden Files, I'd disagree that the destruction of the Red Court let an even worse species fill the void. As bad as the Fomor are, they're still a pretty small time collection of bad guys compared to the thousands upon thousands (possibly millions, we've never had an accurate count) of Always Chaotic Evil, blood sucking, infectious, organised vampires.
Then again, the series is going to end in a Big Apocalyptic Trilogy, so perhaps the Red Court were the lock that kept a Cosmic Horror from breaking into the world, or something along those lines.
