I removed it because the entry failed to explain what the factual misconception about the matter fans had was.
If it was that the games don't/aren't supposed to have a coherent timeline/continuity, that they quickly pulled the official timeline and purposely made Sword and Shield without placement such placement suggests fans were right about such.
Was the misconception something else?
Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtHonestly I'm not even sure myself what exactly the entry was targeting. I tried going through this page's history and the history of a few related pages to find out if there was any other discussion in the edit summaries or possibly a forum discussion, but as far as I can tell the entry was pretty much added as is with the creation of this page. And as you said, assuming it was about the idea that the Pokemon games don't have a timeline (which again, was definitely NOT a common position at the time the entry was added), what Game Freak did later suggests that either the fans were right or there wasn't much of a misconception to begin with (or both). My edit was nothing more than attempt to salvage it in the event that I did miss something, and it being removed convinces me even more that this trope doesn't apply to the timeline, so I don't miss it now that it's gone.
Edited by thisisthebloke- The Hero and The Rival of Pokémon Red and Blue are not Ash Ketchum and Gary Oak. Ash and Gary are from the anime, not the games; the player character's canonical name is "Red", and his rival is canonically "Blue". The games and the show take place in noticeably similarly continuities, but they're not the same. Among other changes: Red won the Indigo League tournament, while Ash lost in the fifth round, and Red isn't particularly close with the gym leaders Brock and Misty.
Actually, despite their names being eventually canonized as Red and Blue, Satoshi(Ash's original name) and Shigeru(Gary's original name) are two of the default names to, respectively, The Hero and The Rival in Pokemon Red, meaning that they actually were named with his names- similar to Brock and Misty. And the series started as an adaptation of the original games.
Regarding the Pokemon timeline point, it hasn't been edited since June of 2019, which was before Masuda-san publicly admitted that Game Freak basically has no idea what the timeline is, which lines up with their more recent remarks to not establish a consistent canon. Matsumiya-san's tweet was a subject of debate regarding its veracity, not to mention that it was deleted not long after it was posted. But even setting that all aside, I can't say there's exactly a large contingent of fans denying that these games are chronologically connected. From what I gather, everyone acknowledges they are, but the manner in which they are connected is extremely unclear, especially in light of the Alola games.
I dunno; to me the more convenient thing would be to just get rid of the entry entirely, but I'm interested to hear some other opinions before pulling the trigger.
