I'm not sure why Mac Ready (Kurt Russell) was given the trope Red-Headed Hero. That is a trope that can only be applied to people who have red hair, and, as evidenced in the picture linked inline in the page, Mac Ready's hair is brown/black. I'll remove it.
I feel like The titular creature doesn't just downplay Eldritch Abomination, it completely subverts it. All characteristics of it that defy known biology can be explained as either Artistic Licence – Biology or the creature in question being, you know, a freaking Starfish Alien. The Shapeshifting? Just browsing through previously-assimilated genetic material and rearranging its cells as the situation requires. The Harmless Freezing? It probably previously assimilated hibernation genes from creatures on a planet MUCH colder than Earth's Ice caps. The BSO Ds mentioned on the page? Just natural results from an incredibly stressful situation.
