- Bastard Boyfriend: In spades. He clearly enjoys having Holly under his thumb, but is obviously not interested in her the way she is in him.
- He's extremely controlling and forces Holly to do what he wants her to do.
- He abandons her after she plans a picnic during the sunset so he can talk to his friends.
- He also mocked her aunt's dead dog, which Holly really happened to like.
- At Holly's 18th birthday party (three weeks prior to the story), he deliberately crashed the family car into the garage.
