I kind of like the idea of just splitting into Humans, Jaegers, and Kaiju, so you can get everything from across the Kaijuniverse(TM) at a glance.
Ehh... I guess that could work too, particularly since Mako, Herc, and the Rippers appear in multiple films.
^ would also simplify the splitting job since we could just copy-paste the page chunks as-is and not have to worry about fiddling with the existing redirects.
Edited by Arawn999I maintain debut work is a better idea. The only characters with any significant “crossover” substance are a minority of the human characters (Mako, Newt etc). The Jaegers and Kaiju only appear in one film each and minor supplementary material.
On second thought I prefer spliting them by factions, since a lot of the comics don't have pages here but they do have entries on the character pages that would potentially be orphaned.
I posted a query in the Ask the Tropers section for feedback... and all I got was "Delete the ZCEs."
Edited by Arawn999Hence my Characters.Pacific Rim Other Media suggestion.
I like the idea to give the two films and anime their respective character page. I also wanna suggest removing certain Jaeger pages for the sake of cleanup, as some of them don't appear in any media and are only known by name and what Word of God says (i.e Matador Fury, Chrome Brutus, Eden Assassin, Nova Hyperion, etc.)
Yeah, I definitely agree with removing the empty Jaeger folders.
This is a very minor concern :-)
Edited by SynchronicityGreat. With that said, I also propose the removal of certain entries in the character folders using the novelization as its basis, due to many instances where the information it gives contradicting the films. For example, on Raleigh Becket's folder, one trope says that the Uprising novel kills him off, where The Black considers him retired.
I don't think we should remove ALL of them, as there is some extra character information that the films don't cover. But is this a good idea?
(Theres also a lot of tropes on the page used in a speculative and/or implied manner that should be removed)
Edited by Henshin4LifeNo, the novelizations are also tropable works, even if the way it interprets the characters is a little different.
I personally still prefer Humans//Jaegers/Kaiju.
But I won't fight consensus.
Speculative Troping should be removed, but Implied Trope is a valid thing.
Crimson Typhoon is stated that it's "Movement is powered by diesel engines". The quote was it had "fifty diesel engines per muscle strand", Gipsy Danger is state to have "forty engine blocks per muscle strand" and the wiki and supplementary materials for Typhoon states it uses a "Midnight Orb 9" energy core.
Unless I hear otherwise, I intend to remove the diesel stuff as it's seem a unit of measurement as opposed to the literal source.
Can we make some changes to Too Dumb to Live under the United Nations character? I agree that their backing the Anti-Kaiju wall after its complete failure it stupid but it seems to veer off into just plain hate.
Would Mako Mori's death count as a Stuff Into the Fridge trope?
Edited by SteadfastRoutAccording to Travis Beacham, Aleksis is 35 in 2025, when the movie is set. Does Word of God trump art books?
Hide / Show RepliesConsidering that the art book lists Cherno Alpha as a Mark IV Jaeger (among other mistakes) I'd say the art book is probably the last place you'd find reliable information in.
I don't think that Eden Assassin was one of the Jaegers we saw during the UN evaluation. I think it was actually Tacit Ronin.
Hide / Show RepliesWell, there were the wrecks of Horizon Brave and Romeo Blue, and then the Jaeger graveyard in which Tacit Ronin's head is clearly visible (and Horizon Brave's head is also there). Eden Assassin might've been among the junk in the graveyard, but we have no confirmation whatsoever, so it's speculation, really.
Why are the Jaegers listed first? To me, it makes sense to have the humans listed first, especially considering the fact that Jaegers aren't sentient (as opposed to Transformers, for instance). If there's some genuine reason for this, then I'm completely fine with leaving the page as is, but otherwise I propose we move the characters so that it's humans first, then Jaegers, then Kaiju.
♥ ♦ ♠ ♣ Hide / Show RepliesOkay, no one responded to this so I'm just going to move the human characters first. If you think it should be switched back, reply here so we can discuss it.
♥ ♦ ♠ ♣Can a troper elaborate on Gottlieb-as-Turing expy? He's definitely playing on WWII-era British scientist/boffin tropes, down to the way he dresses, but why Turing specifically?
Crimson Typhoon didn't quite have a Leitmotif but did have a chorus of Ominous Chanting (Cherno Alpha had a chorus of Ominous Russian Chanting). But what would the chanting for Crimson Typhoon be called? It didn't necessarily sound like Latin, or even Chinese...
With the release of The Black this page will grow some more and I am thinking it should be split. Which way would be better?
I personally prefer the latter.
