Bastard Boyfriend: Post-Anathos cycle; he cheated on Shimy during the Time Skip and rather clumsily breaks up with her. Book 16 puts it further by revealing he actually invoked this trope: he had found out he was dying due to a shard of metal in his heart, and wanted Shimy to hate him so his death would be less painful to her. Still makes him play this trope straight toward Shun-Day, his fiancée, who he was engaged to just so he could speed the creation of his enhanced Katseye.
