In Descent, the bog-standard lasers still drain your main energy, that you could have converted to shields with proper upgrades instead of having it drained with every shot. This problem is solved when you get the Gauss Cannon, that uses Vulcan Ammo - itself a gatling with an eye-watering ammo consumption - but at a very reduced rate, and packs quite a wallop with every single round to boot. Twenty-thousand rounds of ammo, and not draining your main batteries... where do I sign?
