The trope applies, since the whole movie plays up the relationship as being romantic, only to go "Nah, not really. Marnie is Anna's grandmother" in the end. So the romantic nature of the relationship gets hidden by revealing that they can't be lesbian after all.
The trope page for Hide Your Lesbians states it's applicable for situations where the exact nature of the character's relationship is never explicitly stated. But I've seen this...it -is- explicitly stated. The entry even admits as such in the spoiler space. It seems to need a different trope.
