"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThis might sounds like a stupid question, but where exactly does this show take place, the US or Japan?
Hello... I'm a terribly inept troper, but I wrote a story that's listed on the Fanfic Rec page, and I just decided to de-anon and post it to fanfiction.net. Could someone help switch around the links on the rec page, please? Thank you very much.
This is the new link, so you don't have to go find it. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7643329/1/Candle
Tiger and Bunny is set in the year 1978, with a 20 Minutes into the Future feel. How do we approach this in troping? Cross-posting to the Lost And Found in case there's a trope that covers it I don't know about, or this is the wrong venue.
Edited by Naganonamy Hide / Show RepliesIt's not stated in dialogue, but it's established in various bits of text that appear on-screen. The first episode takes place at the end of the 1977 HeroTV season, which is why Sky High's King of Heroes splash-screen has "1977" on it; likewise, the pins Kotetsu buys for himself and Barnaby later in the series commemorate Christmas 1978 and have "1978" printed on them.
It takes place in NC 1977~1979 (counting the final timeskip). It's simply intended to be an Alternate Universe of our timeline.
Edited by StarryThanks, Starry.
Kind of figured it was an alternate world, what with what we've been able to gather of the political structure and architecture. Though being set in the late 70's would certainly explain Barnaby's hair and Muramasa's minibus.
I guess a quick edit of the Twenty Minutes Into The Future entry would clear this up on the mainpage.
Can someone move the Funny, Awesome and Heartwarming pages. They didn't get moved with the main page and I don't know how to do it. could just be the buttons aren't showing on the main page.
Hide / Show RepliesHello brain twin, I guess we'll give it a few days for them to show up, and if not I'll try to flag somebody else down to help.
EDIT: Whelp there you go, they're showing up for me now.
Edited by StarryWhat happened to the crowner sections? The button links are still on multiple pages of other works and the pages haven't been deleted yet.
Small thing, but why can't we keep the line about Barnaby being a Tsundere towards Kotetsu on the Ho Yay page? It's acknowledged by Word of God that he is after all.
Hide / Show RepliesI'm not the one who changed it, but I do agree with the person who noted that she (it has to be a girl, right? LOL) thinks he's more kuudere than tsundere. Blue Rose — now she's a very classic tsundere, textbook example. Barnaby is 'kuu' (major) + 'tsun' (minor) with a tiny bit of 'dere' on the side reserved solely for Kotetsu. Which doesn't really count, imo.
Also, what does being a tsundere have to do with Ho Yay anyhow? If you've read/watched Get Backers you'll understand my point — Ban is a perfect example of a type-A male tsundere, but that doesn't really mean anything other than..well...that he's a tsundere.
And just as an aside — everyone is adding in these things the creators are supposed to have said (especially on the Ho Yay page); but where are they getting all this information from? Is there an English source? I've only been able to find Japanese ones myself.
Edited by BlacKatAh well, I haven't watched Get Backers....
A lot of the translated Word of God stuff can be found here http://thisissternbild.com and /a/ translations http://archive.easymodo.net/a/thread/55386861#p55398949
Edited by StarryFrom Satou's interview in Animage: (About Blue Rose) "She is slightly similar to Barnaby in her tsundere tendencies."
Matsui: (about episode 25 onwards) "Barnaby is slightly tsun (it’s his nature)."
Edited by moiAnyone opposed to changing Red/Blue Oni into Green/Pink Oni?
Hide / Show RepliesI think that would only confuse matters - the trope is more about characterization than actual color-coding, and if anyone comes to the article looking for that specific example, it would make it harder to find.
Should we put OneWomanWail since every time Bunny remembers the death of his parents there is this certain soundtrack that goes along with it?
Hide / Show RepliesHas anybody notice that Barnaby's father looks like Michael Keaton from Batman? Or is it just me?
I added the line about the Recurring Extra Some of Us Call Scarf-tan speaking in episode 22 because, well, I'd totally forgotten about her one or two brief lines in other episodes. Should we just cut that bit at this point?
Hide / Show RepliesRegarding the "Scarf-Tan" Fan Nickname, while I don't feel the need to revert the edit, a quick Google search shows that the nickname "Scarf-Tan" has fairly widespread use in the show's western fandom, to the point that Google even predicted the search text "scarf-tan tiger & bunny" when I started entering it. So it's not just "a few people on this site."
Just, you know, for the record.
Hide / Show RepliesI reverted the edit (with a caveat of "some fans"). If that was inappropriate, that I'm inviting an edit war, or that it should only be in "YMMV" change it back. Mostly I wasn't fond of the person's tone in their correction.
Edited by vashfanaticThe main page says that the Hero Magazine revealed Tiger's age when he met Mr. Legend, but I'm not seeing it there. Which page should I be looking at?
Hide / Show RepliesI'm not sure but I think it was Monthly Hero 2, the one with the image of little Kotetsu. I might be wrong and quoting magazine scans in the worst case but I do recall that translation.
The version I have (which may be the wrong one) has a small picture of Kotetsu but only says "When he was young" (幼い頃). What does your version say? And link me where you found it, if possible.
Um, I can't find it either. I'm starting to fear it might actually 2Chan speculation that somehow got into the translation so until I can find something to confirm it I'll remove that part.
Something I just realized.
The whole episode 15 business between Sky High and that girl is almost play-for-play identical to something that happens in Outlaw Star between Jim and a girl.
Both run into each other in front of a fountain, with both guys falling head over heels with the girl right away. Both guys' friend(s) end up finding about the guys' crush. Both end up meeting again at the exact same place. Both end up fighting each other with neither of them knowing who the other is (Sky High's girl being a malfunctioning robot, while Jim's girl is a member of the Anten Seven, who's been hunting the main cast for most of the show,) with the guy and his team ending up killing the girl. Then both guys return to the fountain later, only to find that the girl never shows up.

- Shock and Awe; Another function of his weather-control powers. He doesn't have nearly the same amount of control over it as Dragon Kid, but it's useful for when he really wants to cut loose.
From Sky High's profile. I went and re-watch all his episode and couldn't find a single spark anywhere, if someone has any idea what the example was referring too please add the example again with the clarification.
I'm thinking of pruning character tropes that only apply to one character from the main page, what with us having a character sheet and all. Anyone oppose?
"If there's a hole, it's a man's job to thrust into it!" — Ryoma Nagare, New Getter Robo Hide / Show RepliesI'm pretty ambivalent. I don't find it necessary, but I don't have any real objection, either.

"If there's a hole, it's a man's job to thrust into it!" — Ryoma Nagare, New Getter RoboKinda what I thought. So it'll last all the way through the summer season?
Yep. At least, that's what Anidb says — and their info is usually pretty accurate.
I hope the show doesn't get stale, though. After all, the original number of episodes planned was 15; the extension happened only because it was more popular than the producers initially predicted. Hopefully, T & B won't turn into a Kotetsu x Blue Rose love story...though the preview for episode 14 kind of makes it look that way, doesn't it?
Edited by sylverfairiWhere did you get the above information? As far as I know it has always been planned to be 26 episodes long. (Besides, 15 episode series don't really exist nowadays. It's either 24-26 or 11-13 eps.)
Edited by BaranoI'm pretty sure that 14 is going to be less about pairing Kotetsu and Karina and more about playing her crush on him for shameless comedy, judging from the preview.
What? But it said so in the main Wikipedia page for the series! I don't know whether it's been changed since then, but the "15 episodes planned" part was definitely true as of yesterday (25th June).
Of course, the whole "It was extended because of its popularity" bit is what they say on forums all over the place — I don't know whether that was the actual reason for the episode number changing from 15 to 26...
Edited by sylverfairiLooking at the Edit History of Wikipedia, they're upping the number by 1 every time they get a new episode title.
What Wiki says is that 15 episodes have been announced, which I think just means that only up to episode 15 have had titles/any information released thus far. It doesn't mean only 15 were planned, just means no details have been released for 16 onward.
When the show had first started, Wiki had 20-something episodes listed, though I can't recall what number. Anime News Network has 25 listed, and they're usually pretty on the mark, so between ANN and Anidb, the planned episodes are probably around 25 or 26, give or take.
The D stands for Destiny ✰ Rosa Metalglove Dickpuncher (also I just got it from Vampire Hunter D).
This sounds more like What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway? to me, but I've watched very little of the show. Could someone who has seen the episode decide whether to move the example?
