In an example of give and take, the 1997 Makai Tenshō OVA adaptation used a character design for Jubei Yagyu obviously based on Kibagami, who is based on Yagyu as portrayed in Makai Tenshō book. This caused a confusion in the west when Makai Tenshō was mistakenly billed as a sequel to Ninja Scroll.
