FYI, I've just created a cleanup thread here.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Regarding the following Asshole Victim entry:
- It's hard to feel much sympathy towards Embryo's death at the hands of Tusk. He started several wars in various timelines, put the two Earths in terror just so he can accomplish his evil plans, and was fully intending to rape and eventually kill Ange.
For example, the Asshole Victim trope can be used when a hoodlum gets murdered by the T-800 in the Terminator films and the audience is happy to see him or her go as a result. However, given how Embryo does go out of his way to be as despicable as possible in this series, does this entry belong here?
Edited by gjjones He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself. Hide / Show RepliesNo discussion has been taken place so far, so I may end up taking it to Trope Talk Conversations or Ask The Tropers and I've hidden the example for now until a proper ruling can be made.
Edited by gjjones He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.A LOT of major antagonists in multiple series fall under the Asshole Victim category. It can apply to ANYONE of Embryo and/or Julio's caliber, be they random characters, major characters, or antagonists (even if they are main antagonists).
Plus, Julio was a major antagonist, as well (just not as much as Embryo). Embryo's actions were far worse than Julio's, so why should he be left out?
Edited by TVLubberConsidering Fukuda's love for referencing his old works, who's ready for the imminent "ANGEEEEEEEE!!!" "SALIAAAAAAA!!!" moment?
An interesting artifact that popped up in the middle of episode 8 was the location that Ange and company turn up at after abandoning their escape vehicle—an old petrol station (gasoline). Given the fanatical, quasi-religious and literally subhuman treatment that norma receive institutionally at both the public and international levels, combined with the presence of artifacts such as old french romance films, would it be too far-fetched to assume that the opposite was once the case? That magic using humans were created, rebelled, and then subsequently erased all records of this, enslaving and institutionalizing racism to secure their position?
Edited by 9.17.35.44 Hide / Show RepliesYes, I just thought of the same thing.
What if Normas are the dominant species once, and the mana-users are the oppressed. Since however fucklongs ago, they doctrined the populace to think that they're the superior race.
Fuck. Mitsurugi empire is a fucking fuckplace.
I just want to have Friends.
I just watched this show a few days ago and checked over the trope page, and I think it needs some serious cleanup. Some tropes are character tropes instead of plot tropes and there are references to anime and video games that average Americans may not even know and the YMMV page is very opinionated and full of knee-jerk reactions, even by YMMV standards. I think these pages were developed back when the show was still broadcasting and could use a rework now that it's been years since the show ended. What do you say?
