Usually at the end, unless the examples are ordered alphabetically.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI have a question. A lot of posts I see have regular words hyperlinked. Probably a dumb question, but how do I do that? Thanks!

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWith respect to ownership of material posted on the forum and quoting our own works- how does this affect ownership of the work then? Is it still deemed surrendered do we retain ownership given it was originally separate from the wiki?
Or would it be easier to say that we give TV Tropes the right to use those quoted portions of our work?
Hide / Show RepliesThe reason why we claim ownership is to stop people from demanding that we remove their edits/posts from here. We are not going to enforce any ownership beyond that point, meaning that you can still use your work at your leisure.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanUm, I don't know if I can suggest things to the wiki here... But can someone put an easily viewable link to our PM inbox amongst the top-page buttons? The PM button up there only lets me compose a message, and there's no inbox link there that I've seen.
If this is not the place, please direct this question wherever appropriate. Thanks.
One Nation Under WiFi Hide / Show RepliesGreetings,
I know it's not obvious, but wiki tech side suggestions ought to go into the Wiki Tech Wish List. Good luck!
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynmanhello everyone, new to tv tropes here
where do i hang out with others in the site?
__________________________________________________ Hide / Show RepliesGreetings and welcome,
while this site is big, a good place to start is this discussion in the forums.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynmanthanks but there is something about 24 hours wait time
__________________________________________________hello again guys
the 24 hour thing wont show anymore, thank goodness
__________________________________________________I've noticed a lot of trope examples have a description such as "show X is guilty of this as well," even if the trope itself is not explicitly negative (and this is ignoring that Tropesare Tools). I'm not particularly fond of this, but where would I have to go to bring up my grievance with this practice?
Hide / Show RepliesIt's a figure of speech. If someone were to say that I'm charming and handsome, I'd likely respond "Guilty as charged!" (because I'm totally charming and handsome). The phrase is ambiguous in its connotations when used this way.
I need help. All the stuff on the Legend Of Maxx trope page is GONE. Can someone tell me who did this?
Hide / Show RepliesHi there!
Work pages need to be put in the appropriate namespace — in this case, Webcomic/. That page was created in Main/, so it was moved. The content is still around, but now it's at Webcomic/Legend Of Maxx rather than just Legend Of Maxx.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Hey, I tried to create a discussion page, but it told me I had to wait because I've created too many discussions, even though that was my first attempt at making a discussion. What gives?
Hide / Show RepliesOther people have a similar issue on the fora, likely related to anti-spam stuff. I've reported it here.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I've been watching season 1 of Home Movies, and in the episodes "It Was Supposed to Be Funny" and "Life Through a Fisheye Lens" as well as several times in all sorts of other shows' episodes, and other media, a character, in the case of the Home Movies episodes, Melissa's dad (Eric) and Brendon's mom (Paula) take their child and their child's friends, respectively, out to eat without being able to pay, therefore creating situational irony in the one ep, and a conflict in the other. This feels like a trope. If so, is there a name for it Do people make up names for tropes on here? "Thought I Had Money"?
"Multiple handles (also known as Sock Puppets) are technically allowed, but we do restrict accounts to one per IP address for security reasons." is mentioned here under "Getting Known"
This is not mentioned under https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/knowerForm.php though. It sounds important so I think it should be.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SockPuppet mentions under 'Web Original' that "it's not at all uncommon in larger media threads for tropers to create alternate accounts to roleplay as characters from the works being discussed."
I'm very unclear on this policy. How do you get multiple handles if it's restricted to 1 per IP? Does this mean that you have to have multiple IP addresses to get multiple handles? Or can multiple handles be associated with a single account and switched between?
I would like to create a new handle for a roleplaying thread but I don't know how we're supposed to do that within the rules, clarification on this process would be helpful.
Hide / Show RepliesYou create one handle at one IP, another handle at another IP, and so on. Try visiting a coffee shop, or just waiting a while (if your house has a dynamic IP address), to create your second account. Provided you do not make more than ten or them maliciously, you're good to go.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. They Mispelled forum... and the page is locked.... *must resist... OCD rage*
Hide / Show RepliesYou can ask for an edit here. Where on the page?
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Something's been bothering me about this site. WHY MUST I WAIT 24 HOURS JUST TO MAKE A FREAKING POST????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And can anyon explain to me why I can only make 1 edit a day (Or as the site tell you I have to wait a minute to make another)?
Hide / Show RepliesI want to know the same thing, I just joined tv tropes, but after logging in which was pretty simple compared to other forum logic format, I simply could not find a link to post in the bleach discussion page. it said "link post will be added in 24 hours", so I dont know what that means cause its been longer than that and i still can't post.
can someone please take the time out to explain what this is?>
The waiting time before posting, and the restrictions on editing and posting for new accounts, are anti-spam and -vandalism measures. Provided you wait a full minute between saving one edit and opening the edit screen again, editing pause shouldn't be an issue.
It hasn't been 24 hours for you, Pavitre, since you still show up on the newly-created accounts list (which will be wiped at midnight). Just so you know, there isn't a clock on the button so it'll still say "24 hours" right up until you can post. If you still don't get an "add post" button this time tomorrow, PM me and I'll see if we can find out why or be happy to make a Tech Help thread about it.
Edited by Telcontar That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. The page contradicts itself.
"Links to other pages are easy. If it is two or more words, use WikiWords. If it is one word, use double curly brackets: {{Jeopardy}}"
"All new work articles must go in a Namespace, rather than in "Main". Failure to follow this rule will get your article cut."
"There is a standard way to format examples. Titles of films, shows, and albums are italicized. Use two separate apostrophes around the title: The Price Is Right for The Price Is Right. Titles of episodes and songs are in quotes: "Brittle Bullet." "
Should also mention that novels are italicized, short stories go in quotes.
I think it would be an good idea if whenever a person signed up they were given a link to this page, How To Write An Example, Example Indentation In Trope Lists, and whatever else would be useful to a newcomer to this site.
^Not actually my favorite animal. There's been some ruckus on the YKTTW recently with people setting out to do things and not knowing the rules of etiquette or even how to work some of the things they're trying to do.
The real issue here is this: How can we make this page more available to prevent things like botch-launches or insult through ignorance from happening again? I propose we link to this page directly on the YKTTW.
Writing is about the joy of creation. Publishing is all about the money.Hi, I'm new here, and I was just wondering...how do you add tropes to your page?
Perfectionism is a beast. Hide / Show RepliesYou edit the page, type in the entry as under How To Write An Example, and click Save. If you want to know how to create a troper page, it says right there in the article you just added this note to.
Edited by Fighteer "It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Ack! Sorry! I accidentally clicked folderize! Is their an easy way to roll back the edit?

What goes where?
One thing that isn't very clear if I want to add an example to a page is where it goes. Lists of tropes against a particular show or whatever go in alphabetic order, but the order used for examples seems to be completely arbitrary. I usually just add things to the end, but...
Thanks.
