I don\'t want to start editing the list of tropes in case I\'m the only one who reads it this way, but I\'ve seen the movie a couple of times and always come away with the impression that Kon is giving the audience another way to look at the move. Are the scenes from earlier periods just movie scenes, or do they (also) represent earlier lives that Chiyoko has lived? After all, doesn\'t the old fortune teller from the earliest period scene say something about cursing her to live the same life (falling for a man and never being able to find him) over and over? It could just be a scene from a movie, but I always thought that it was supposed to be possibly \
