Removing the following examples from the \\\"notable\\\" list, which should really focus on the clearest examples (I haven\\\'t touched the actual foldered examples yet)...

* AirFortress
* BlasterMaster

\\\'\\\'AirFortress\\\'\\\' has linear levels and the only possible action is to jump, hover and kill the enemies. At best, it\\\'s an early {{Metroidvania}} game. \\\'\\\'BlasterMaster\\\'\\\' is a more clearcut {{Metroidvania}}, but still a {{Metroidvania}}.

* BetrayalAtKrondor

I\\\'ve only played a little bit of it, but from all indications from TheOtherWiki, it\\\'s a straightforward, albeit mostly first-person RolePlayingGame. Almost all RPG\\\'s have sidequests and the ability to explore the game world - that alone doesn\\\'t make it a WideOpenSandbox.

* {{Castlevania}}
** CastlevaniaII
** CastlevaniaSymphonyOfTheNight

\\\'\\\'{{Castlevania}}\\\'\\\' has linear levels and a \\\'\\\'time limit\\\'\\\' for each one. It\\\'s most definitely not a sandbox of any sort. The other two games are {{Metroidvania}}... in fact, they\\\'re half the trope namer.

* ChronoTrigger (second half)
** ChronoCross (second disc)

That\\\'s OpeningTheSandbox. They\\\'re otherwise straightforward RPG\\\'s.

* {{Crystalis}}

Great game, but totally straightforward RPG.

* DragonSlayer
** [[DragonSlayerIIXanadu Dragon Slayer II: Xanadu]]
*** {{Faxanadu}}
** [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Slayer_Jr:_Romancia Dragon Slayer III: Romancia]]
** [[LegacyOfTheWizard Dragon Slayer IV: Legacy Of The Wizard]]

That\\\'s {{Metroidvania}} with RPGElements.

* DragonQuest
** DragonQuestI
** DragonQuestII
** DragonQuestIII
** DragonQuestVIII
** DragonQuestIX

Those are {{RPG}}s.

* FinalFantasy
** FinalFantasyI
** FinalFantasyII
** FinalFantasyVI (second half)
** FinalFantasyVII (third disc)

Those are {{RPG}}s.

* [[Game/TheGoonies The Goonies]]
** TheGooniesII

{{Metroidvania}}.

** [[GrandTheftAutoClassic Grand Theft Auto I]]

The first game wasn\\\'t a WideOpenSandbox, it had levels and points you had to earn to move to the next one. [=GTA2=] began the trend, and the [=GTA3=] series codified it.

** GTARadio

\\\'\\\'That\\\'s not even a game!\\\'\\\'

* {{Metroid}}
** MetroidII
** SuperMetroid
** MetroidPrime

{{Metroidvania}} - it\\\'s the first half of that trope name.

* SimCity

It\\\'s a simulation, so there\\\'s no player avatar in the game that can do anything, much less everything. There\\\'s no goal, but there\\\'s also no exploration of a game world.

* TheLegendOfZelda
** [[Game/TheLegendOfZelda The Legend Of Zelda]]
** [[TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past]]
** [[TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time]]
** [[TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask The Legend Of Zelda: Majora\\\'s Mask]]
** [[TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker]]
** [[TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess The Legend Of Zelda: TwilightPrincess]]

That\\\'s just an ActionRPG.

* WorldOfMana
** FinalFantasyAdventure
** SecretOfMana
** SeikenDensetsu3
** LegendOfMana

\\\'\\\'FinalFantasyAdventure\\\'\\\', \\\'\\\'SecretOfMana\\\'\\\' and \\\'\\\'SeikenDensetsu3\\\'\\\' are {{RPG}}s. I haven\\\'t played \\\'\\\'LegendOfMana\\\'\\\', but I\\\'ll add it back since TheOtherWiki\\\'s description does sound like one.

* SuperMario64
** SuperMarioSunshine
** SuperMarioGalaxy
** SuperMarioGalaxy2

Those are free-roaming platformers. Maybe {{Metroidvania}}, but not {{Wide Open Sandbox}}es.

Okay, I know the SlidingScaleOfLinearityVsOpenness can make this trope a tough call sometimes, but WideOpenSandBox is more than just a game with exploration. Keep in mind we have other tropes for games with exploration, such as {{Metroidvania}}, OpeningTheSandbox, ActionRPG and RPGElements.
