Combine that with LoadsAndLoadsOfLoading and this game claims for a remake in a single disc, at least.

Final Fantasy IX (9) was specially egregious, but not because of the scale per se. The game was split into 4 CDs, the overworld flying ship was not available well into disc 3 or 4, and some dungeons are LOCKED OUT after you reach disc 4, exactly because you\'d need to load CD 1 or 2 or 3 again, and some world event (giant roots) was created with the single purpose of locking those dungeons away. If the game was published today for a ps4 or ps5 (a remake, yes?), it would be all in a single blu-ray or a digital download, with no reason to split into 4 discs or lock the dungeons at all.
