The Age of Consent section contains a bit of a misleading statement. When it says \"California, however, has no close-in-age exemptions at all.\" that might be true from a strictly technical standpoint, it is not true from a practical standpoint. In California, sex between minors is a misdemeanor but so far as I know, no minors have ever been prosecuted for misdemeanor teen sex, at least not in recent decades. Ther law also stipulates that if an adult no more then 3 years older, has sex with a minor, then it counts as a misdemeanor rather then the usual felony. Since such misdemeanors are not prosecuted these days, so far as I can tell, even in cases involving a close in age adult, there is for all intents and purposes a de facto close-in-age exemption, even if not de jure. Hollywood of course seems to ignore this aspect in the law though, treating all adult-minor teen sex as a felony, even where it is not.
