Creator.Crunchyroll could work in theory as a separate page from Platform.Crunchyroll, but in practice the historical entity Funimation is the relevant one here, because modern Crunchyroll is already covered on the Platform page.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.^^ I'd agree with the move. You'll just need to be sure to redirect the Funimation page to point to the correct Crunchyroll page due to the inbounds the Funimation page has. You won't be able to cut the Funimation page because of said inbounds.
What should we do about the trivia tropes if the page is updated, since we don't use trivia pages for creators?
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.^ As long as things don't go into troping the company like it was a fictional character, Trivia items for creators can go to the creator's main page. I have no idea if the Platform namespace would be different though. Was Platform made as a sub-type to Useful Notes or is its own thing?
Edited by Ngamer01I'm just wondering if there would be any merit in keeping the Funimation page as an account of what the company was, what they accomplished and what they licensed before they were absorbed into Crunchyroll.
Like, we have a page for ADV Films - they're the localisation company who dubbed Evangelion back in the day, among others. They collapsed in 2009, but as the page itself states, the rights were split off and sold to five new companies who ostensibly carried on ADV's business as usual (to the point of getting sued by Funimation); Sentai Filmworks is one of those companies, and it also has its own page to cover its own reign in the anime localisation space. Sentai Filmworks itself was sold to AMC in 2022, which might not mean anything if AMC has maintained the Sentai Filmworks brand, but the fact is that from ADV Films to Sentai Filmworks to AMC, we have three separate pages because those three companies are legally distinct with their own legacies, regardless of who owns what or what got absorbed into another company.
I would argue for keeping Funimation as a page to recap the history of the company, as well as to catalogue their releases before they were bought out and dissolved. Funimation was a standalone company once, with its own legacy - just because it's been bought out and dissolved into the broader Crunchyroll conglomerate, it doesn't mean Funimation's page on here has to be melted down and added to Crunchyroll's page.
What I would suggest is having a pre-merger Funimation page with a recap of the company and what they were known for, and then having a blurb on the Crunchyroll page stating that they bought out Funimation, acquired their assets and merged it with the broader Crunchyroll company. Have Funimation's releases remain on their page, and maybe add a list of properties that Crunchyroll obtained via their ownership of Funimation; maybe a partial list of the company's biggest licenses, with a link to the Funimation page.
Like I don't see why a corporate merger means we have to merge their wiki pages, especially when both companies have long and storied histories in the localisation space. And like they might have had a lot of interaction in their mutual operations, but those histories are distinct and different from each other.
Come sail your ships around me, and burn your bridges down.^ Hmm... This sounds like this may need to be discussed further in Wiki Talk on the forums. I was going on info at the time I presented in this old ATT topic, but I see Tecmo got a page when Koei was redirected to Koei Tecmo.
We just need to see on what to do in case of a company merger or buy out with discussion about this in the forums.
Edited by Ngamer01I've opened up a Wiki Talk thread here.
Edited by gjjones He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Keep Creator.Funimation. I don't see the need to merge or redirect or what not. Especially since Funimation has a long history in its own right. Anything related to modern Crunchyroll can be covered on Platform.Crunchyroll.
In light of the March 2022 renaming of Funimation to Crunchyroll LLC as well as the Funimation brand being phased out a few weeks ago, I'm thinking about moving Creator.Funimation to Creator.Crunchyroll and/or Creator.Crunchyroll LLC.
Given that, are there any thoughts?
