It should work out, from what I understand of Disgaea and Fallout demons/people are rough and tumble and crazy but still capable of stuff like love and humour, even if they tend to do so with heavy doses of violence.

It's just a matter of where to jump in. I had the idea that Crow's glee at the mayhem he's causing would have attracted Cheri out of curiosity. But if Spottedleaf is being chased by big dogs right now maybe I should try to help out there first?

It just is what it is

Hey, and welcome to We Are Our Avatars! I'll just put in a link to the rules here just to get that out of the way.

Honestly, from what I know of Ken from Tokyo Ghoul, he'd be one of those pretty big edge cases that could genuinely go either way. You mind describing him a bit for people who haven't read it, and how you intend to play him?

Also, mega apologies to everyone for the unexplained absence. I've been gming for another game that occupied a lot of my time. I'm hopefully going to be back for October to at least not leave people hanging again. >.>

As I've told you, it's not at all a problem, man.

You might want to post a response for Mitch sometime soon though - I think there's only so long I can stretch out a random dramatic conversation in the middle of a boarding action before everyone starts wondering if that grenade he threw got teleported into the same dimension your socks go when they're in the dryer. tongue

So basically, without too many spoilers, Ken Kaneki is, at the start of the series, an eighteen-year-old university student. He becomes a Ghoul from an organ transplant involving Ghoul organs, so now he is practically incapable of eating anything but coffee and human flesh without becoming sick to his stomach. He tries to get by on bodies that are already dead so he doesn't have to worry about their families or too much guilt but will sometimes eat other Ghouls in an attempt for more power to protect his friends. His Kagune (not sure how to give an absolute definition, so you might have to check the Tokyo Ghoul Wiki) is usually four maroon-purple tentacles which sprout from his back, although it can be fewer or even more, and he can sustain a fair amount of damage without losing consciousness.

I'm probably gonna lower the edge factor a bit but he'll still be the brooding Kaneki that doesn't really talk too much and'll do anything to get some ghoul rights up in this

If you'd prefer I could just play Kurloz Makara from Homestuck instead.

sorry if that was too long

If I can be honest, I'm fairly sure both of those characters might encounter problems with the other player characters. Especially someone who is as flatout insane and evil as Kurloz Makara. You might want to consider a character who is a bit more sociable as your first pick in this game smile

I've had my fill of lurking in the shadows. I might as well join in on this. Name's Scarkaka. The EX portion was added due to a mishap on account creation.

I intend to use the eponymous OC I've created, originating from the Blazblue universe, but doesn't actually have a role in that particular world. Well, not anymore.

There's several details to the character I can provide on request, as I'd rather not flood the forum with a somewhat long backstory up to "present events". By all means, ask me anything and offer suggestions as necessary. This is the first character I've ever really integrated into a storyline and would like to avoid poor writing tropes (roll credits).

I hope to stretch some creative muscles over here and share what I have to offer!

Hey, Scarkaka, welcome to We Are Our Avatars! Have you checked out the rules? If you haven't, you should.

That in mind, a general overview of who Scarkaka is would be nice to have. You don't need to give us all the details, just the simple stuff about who he is. If you're still having trouble, think of it like what the intro blurb to a TV show would say about him to clue people in on who he is and how he does.

Very well. Here's a general summary. Apologies for the length.

Name: Scarkaka Alias: Unknown birthname. Gender: Male Species: Kaka Date of Birth: July 3 Age: 23, physically. Scarkaka has not aged since being banished. Height: 5'11'' Blood Type: O Hobbies: Sleep. Values: Seeing a timeline to its proper stoppage point Likes: Steamed meat buns Dislikes: Serpents Weapon: Seithir-steel alloy claws Drive: Stasis Rift

Previous Affiliation: Kaka Tribe Current Position: Servant of Infinity Master: Unnamed

Relatives: Mitsuyoshi (progenitor) Torakaka (sister, same age) Taokaka (younger sister)

Status: Active Sexual Preference: Asexual

Personality: Scarkaka is emotionally distant, wanting nothing more than to pursue outcomes that correspond to his task at hand, and if the opportunity presents itself, seek a permanent death. As such, he can appear selfish. Despite this, he shows pity towards some people he comes across, which usually consist of those that have suffered extensively in their childhood. Regardless, he will not hesitate to ally or slaughter someone, regardless of who they are. Scarkaka prefers speaking to people willing to listen, and is more inclined to share his wisdom with these people. Having lived for aeons on end, Scarkaka only rarely suffers from speech impediment and has developed a memory capacity a few times more effective than a common human's, which pales in comparison to the knowledge available in the multiverse. Scarkaka's tasks are given to him by an unseen master, residing in the void beyond universes. To others, he is little more than a voice within Scarkaka's mind that gives commands and confirmation to certain actions, should there be any danger from deviating from a given timeline, with some scopes being more narrow than others, thus requiring more direction. This coming world would be one of the broader examples, meaning that Scarkaka's master would be much less active.

Powers and Abilities: Scarkaka is, by consequence of past mistakes, effectively immortal, in the sense that his death is not permanent. Such is the second responsibility of Scarkaka's master. Upon death, Scarkaka is returned to a "safe" point in the timeline, if it exists. It may either be a previous point in time or a point immediately after death, or perhaps it may not exist at all, prompting Scarkaka to move on to the next world. These examples are analogous to checkpoints, respawns, and permadeaths, respectively. This does not make Scarkaka immune to pain, however. A combination of proximity to the Blue in his homeworld and years of exposure to the void of the multiverse awakened a previously inaccessible ability: Stasis Rift. The ability can be used in one of two ways. The first allows Scarkaka to access a pocket dimension for storage and protection. Items in the rift have the unique attribute of not aging. Thus, Scarkaka mainly uses it as storage for always-warm steamed meat buns. The second is a classic wormhole maneuver, which can carry objects from point A to B via a tear in space. This ability is not without its caveats, however. First, such an ability is occasionally disabled, so that unintended consequences do not occur (such as breaking free from a cell earlier than intended). Second, such abilities, when overused, tire Scarkaka, potentially to the point of unconsciousness. Scarkaka's weapon of choice is his Seithir-steel claws, which can extend and retract into several blade shapes via the rapid solidification and melting of the molten alloy. The alloy has a unique property of being able to absorb the abilities and affinities of most blades. This ability is limited to non-sentient blades, and the abilities the previous blades have are heavily reduced. In addition, the alloy can only absorb up to 3 blades before it is unable to solidify into a weaponizable state. Removing these affinities is a somewhat lengthy process, requiring spare Seithir (usually reused from the remains of absorbed weapons or, in more dire situations, Scarkaka's own corpse) to reestablish the alloy's integrity. This process removes all extraneous abilities from the alloy.

Phew. Bit of a mouthful. Let me know if there's any glaring issues I should edit, or any way to make the character better.

Okay. I'm going to be honest, I'm not sure I like this character. I can say with certainty the business regarding timelines and an unseen master makes me suspicious, and I can also say it makes others suspicious, too. "Seeing a timeline to its proper stopping point" is not exactly something with a lot of positive interpretations, let alone the fact trying to deal with someone attempting to authoritatively declare that things must go one very specific way, and then not having anything to point to besides themselves as to why, can get very annoying, very quickly, in a game like this where they might be speaking about somebody else's world.

But above all else, We Are Our Avatars is, primarily, a game based around character interaction. People talking to each other. So when I see lines like this, well...

Regardless, he will not hesitate to ally or slaughter someone, regardless of who they are.

I've had multiple experiences in this and related games where characters with that type of violent personality start killing people functionally at random. And combined with all the timeline business, this paints the picture of somebody who is absolutely willing to moke somebody else off on the spot for arbitrary reasons only they know about and decide on.

I don't think Scarkaka (the character) would be very fun to play with in the type of game we are trying to run, nor would he be very fun for you to play. At best I doubt he'd be very well liked by most of the cast, which would make it hard for you to have fun with him; and while I'm not saying you'd do this, at worst he'll try to kill other player characters, and bluntly, I've seen too much of that happen to allow that sort of thing in the game simply on principle. If there's anyone else you can sign up with, I would very much appreciate it.

Oh, hello there! We have an FAQ to help answer many of the things you might be in for, but right now there isn't a whole lot you would need to know to jump in besides potentially the current setting. We're pretty light on continuity around here, so there isn't much we require before you jump in. That being said, we'd definitely like to know what kind of character you want to play beforehand just to make sure they'll fit right in. smile

Hi! I've never posted on any TV Tropes forums, but I'd like to join this RP.

My avatar is Lost Star, an MLP:Fi M unicorn OC. Her cutie mark references the mystery of things lost and found, and she has taken classes in magic, alchemy, archaeology, hippology (pony-styled anthropology), first aid, and Search And Rescue. She was an average student with decent scores in divination and magical analysis, but practical experience has taught her more about SAR and treasure-finding. She's also a bit of a prankster and gamester (shadow archetypes are sometimes like that) and often carries convenient joke and game supplies among the goodies in her panniers. Books she likes to read include noir mysteries, adventure stories, and humorous romance.

Cartoon horse physicality aside (meaning obstacles that wouldn't physically stop an average human aren't gonna stop her, either), she does have fairly typical pony stats. She's physically lightweight and fairly dexterous, more of a Lancer or Smart Chick type than a straight-up Hero.

Primary magic affinities: Shadow/mystery and Light/clarity, or Hiding and Finding

Specific spells/tricks (not a full list, but canon ponies only have a few tricks anyway):

  • Pony unicorn telekinesis, with a weight limit of about 30 pounds. Lost Star can handle several objects at once, with what amounts to a dexterity penalty for doing so if it doesn't directly relate to her affinities.
  • Scan. Pretty much a magical EverythingSensor. Basic analysis still takes a bit of concentration as she reads an aura/substance/body and tries to understand it. Mental skills are key to this, so affecting her mental state will change what information she gets and how she understands it.
  • Turn invisible (imperfect, you can see a faint shadowy outline of her if she's not also hiding). She can do this to herself and/or to others if they're nearby. She has to concentrate lightly to do this, so if her attention fades too much, the spell does too. The more volume she's hiding, the more concentration this takes. She can also reverse this to counter invisibility magic.
  • Locate person or object (base range of about 1/2 mile, more with the proper tools and materials such as a crystal pendulum and a map of the search area). Requires specific knowledge of what or whom is sought ("I need a pencil!" is good enough if you don't mind finding any old pencil nearby), or something related to them (a hair clipping, a personal item, a picture, et cetera) in order to get clear readings, the more specific or personal the better. Definitely affected by circumstances (a broadcasting radio tower will be easy to find at quite long range, if she's somehow tuned to the channel).
  • Ball of Light/Darkness. Energy summon spell, appears where she puts it (such as on her horn or a nearby hallway/table). The size of this ball can be from mosquito size to about the size of a medium horse (such as a quarter horse or mustang). The light intensity can be anything from a firefly's glow to a bare light bulb, while the darkness can be from a bit of misty shadow to near-complete blindness. Larger size costs more energy, stronger intensity costs more concentration. Lost Star is not immune to this spell's effects.
  • Energy bolt. A simple combat spell, she summons a ball of energy and flings it at the target, causing a stun effect. The type can be either light/energy or dark/shadow, with possible associated extra effects (energy can burn you, shadow can drain you, et cetera).
  • Spark/Quench. A variation of the energy bolt, where instead of launching a burst of energy, she channels a stream of it, typically to light things on fire or damp it down.
  • Bind/Unbind spell. This one lets her place spells for longer periods or even permanently, or attempt to break magical spells and effects. It is not a generalized Counterspell, but instead effectively enchants or disenchants the target.
