Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

On The Great Character Alignment Debate, one instance of The Little Mermaid should be amended to Disney/TheLittleMermaid.

Let's just say and leave it at that.

While we're doing that page, let's get a few more knocked out:

  1. Batman to Franchise/
  2. Lex Luthor is potholed to Superman. But Lex Luthor has his own page, so let's cut him a check, alright?
  3. Can the phrase "flaunts and outright ignores the rules when they don't suit him" be potholed to Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right! ?

D&D should be changed to ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons''.

" It's because characters are rarely so simplistic as to be easily assigned to a bucket on a 3x3 grid." is a fragment.

I would change "it's" to "Controversy arises"

That's the only thing that needs to be definitively changed.

"upholds the morals of society" could be potholed to The Cape.

"when society itself fails them", potholed to either Humans Are Bastards or another appropriate trope.

"characters are rarely so simplistic as to be easily assigned to a bucket on a 3x3 grid", potholed to Character Depth.

In the last paragraph, "in-story" should be changed to "In-Universe".

[up] No to the second one - that trope is Humans Are the Real Monsters and only applies when humans are being compared to other sentient species.

On another note, perhaps that No real life examples, ever! at the end should be potholed to NRLEP?

I specifically put "or another appropriate trope" at the end of the second point, which means it should be corrected, not vetoed. I of course figured that might not be the right trope. So which would be the proper trope to pothole?

@3257: That is not a sentence fragment. "It's" = "It is", providing the subject and verb.

@3258: I used The Cowl specifically as a pot hole there because Batman is the classic example. The Cape is typically reserved for Superman and I didn't want to confuse them. Also, I'm not seeing any of the Humans Are X tropes good for that pothole, nor does Hobbes Was Right apply here. The last two items I did.

@3259: Pothole added.

Batman is actually listed in both The Cape and The Cowl, as he can fit both tropes, and the sentence fits The Cape.

"it" still needs to be fleshed out - there's nothing that tells the viewer what "it" is referring to.

Alternately, if you take these two sentences: "There's a reason someone created an alignment chart with Batman in each position. It's because characters are rarely so simplistic as to be easily assigned to a bucket on a 3x3 grid. " and replaced "it's because" with a dash, that would clarify.

@3262: Fair enough.

@3263: The "It" refers to "a reason" from the previous sentence. It's not a fragment but it does sound awkward, so I changed the period to an emdash.

Looking at it, it flows considerably better as such.

I'm requesting a bit of grammar cleanup on Accidental Nightmare Fuel:

  1. In the bullet point beginning with "Over the top slapstick violence", the following semicolon should be a comma.
  2. In the next bullet point, there should be a comma after claymation. It might be better to change from "or" to "and" in the same sentence.
  3. With regard to The A.V. Club, there should be periods after "A" and "V".
  4. In the sentence beginning with " If a villain that causes this...", perhaps the end of the sentence should state "it's a case of Vile Villain, Saccharine Show"
  5. Related Tropes should be singular. I'd just say: "A related trope is the Uncanny Valley", myself.
